Our story
In 2010 Rob and Danny, owners of Mungalli Creek Dairy were approached by an enthusiastic young man who wanted to start dairy farming. We were his only option because the local co-op was not accepting any new dairy farmers.
Rob and Danny Watson have been dairy farming their whole lives and lived through a time when their small town was a bustling community. 32 kids used to hop on the bus on their road, today there are but a handful. Since 2000 when the dairy industry was deregulated dairy farmers in Queensland have dropped from 1500 in 2000, to just over 300 in 2020. There are only about 50 dairy farms left in our area.
They couldn’t let this opportunity pass us by – there aren’t many young people interested in getting into dairy farming these days! They knew they could help make a difference and pave a new way for young farmers to enter the industry.
The instant support for Jersey milk was huge and showed that customers really did want a locally owned and produced product. Each year our brand has continued to grow and now supports 5 local family farms. It is a local brand to support the local industry, produced by local farmers and cows, and bottled at your local family owned processor – Mungalli Creek.
We are proud of the journey we have taken. We are proud of the farmers that have joined us on this journey and we are proud of the customers who love our milk. We are here for the long term and are proudly 100% Aussie owned from farmer to processor to shelf. Thank you for your support.
